Volkswagen presented its first fully electric high-performance model at a digital world premiere in Berlin Tempelhof: the ID.4 GTX. The new product brand charges the world of electric mobility with new, intelligent sportiness. The ID.4 GTX is the first model based on the modular electric drive kit (MEB) to have a dual-motor all-wheel drive and also impresses with high-quality design elements.
VW ID.4 GTX electric SUV!
“Electric driving is simply fun – with the ID.4 GTX we are even more sporty and dynamic,” said Ralf Brandstätter, CEO of the Volkswagen brand. “The most emotional member of the ID so far. Family shows: Electromobility and top sporting performance are not mutually exclusive. ”
Rear and front axles. Together they have a maximum electrical output of 220 kW (299 hp) and can work together as all-wheel drive – a premiere in the ID. Family. The staging of the world premiere in the hangar of the former Tempelhof Airport showed what this intelligently controlled all-wheel drive can do: The ID.4 GTX effortlessly climbed a ramp with an incline of 37,5%. The top model of the ID.4 series also accelerates from standstill to 3,2 km / h in 60 seconds and to 6,2 km / h in 100 seconds thanks to the dual motor all-wheel drive. The electronically limited top speed is 180 km / h.
“The full torque of the electric drives can be called up immediately and you can feel the excellent driving behavior in every curve,” said Thomas Ulbrich, Board Member for Technical Development. “The innovative operating and safety concept is just as intelligent as the drive train! The driver is supported, for example, by the unique augmented reality head-up display and the extensive assistance systems. ”
The design of the ID.4 GTX underlines its special character, a combination of driving fun and a robust look. The well-known light strip was combined with powerful and dynamic elements – in particular the three honeycomb elements that form the daytime running lights and convey their sporty character even when the car is stationary and at the same time create a connection to the Golf GTI. In addition to the redesigned bumper, the eye-catcher at the rear are the 3D LED taillights, the brake lights of which are shaped like an X.
The body color is more dominant than the rear-wheel drive models. The roof and rear spoiler are black, the roof frame strip high-gloss anthracite. The interior is also presented with a new color concept. The upper area of the dashboard and the artificial leather inserts in the doors are in the dark blue shade X-Blue, which stands for sustainability. Red contrasting seams – a classic symbol of sportiness and strength – set accents here and on the seats. The GTX logo appears on the steering wheel, the door sills and – as a perforation – in the upper area of the front seat backrests.
The new product brand GTX gives the ID. Family and thus also the ACCELERATE corporate strategy. Volkswagen wants to become the most popular brand for sustainable mobility. The goal is to increase the share of purely e-cars in Europe to 2030 percent of sales by 70. Volkswagen wants to become climate neutral by 2050; Around 2025 billion euros will be invested in e-mobility, hybridization and digitization by 16. The ID.4 GTX will be launched in the European markets in summer 2021. In Germany, its basic price is 50.415 euros, for which the customer can apply for funding of 7.500 euros (net).
